Green Star Canoe Club Clean up!
Members of Green Star Canoe Club make a significant impact in the ‘Big Paddle Cleanup’.
Our Big Paddle toolkit, organised by club member Charlie has seen a dramatic result!
Focussing on a waterway frequently used by Green Star Canoe Club and Manvers Paddlesport Section, and in support of a planned slalom event at a new location this year.
Head Coach and club founder Esther Mathews was keen to lead by example.
Club members made a huge collaborative effort from Green Star Canoe Club and Manvers Paddlesport Section.
Our big paddle clean up this year is submitted and added to the clean up map, just in time for World Environment Day. This includes all the litter taken away from Kilnhurst since March. Club volunteers have done a huge amount of work to the area and made the environment safer, cleaner and a much improved place to paddle.
The magnitude of litter the collaborative team removed was considerable, making it impractical to complete the cleanup within a single day. Consequently, a number cleanup days were scheduled over several weeks.
The efforts resulted in the safe, clean delivery of a new slalom to the calendar, broadening access to paddle sports and enabling a path of ongoing efforts of upkeep at the site.

The cleanup highlights the amazing work paddlers do on a regular basis to help with this environmental crisis and support our vision for fair, shared and sustainable open access on water; and our commitment to protecting the environment.
As part of the Clear Access Clear Waters campaign, British Canoeing is pledging to continue to protect and improve the health of our rivers, addressing plastic in our waterways and highlighting the positive impact accessing our waterways can have for the environment.
Green Star Canoe Club share this ethos, continually striving to be fair and considerate of the environment. We encourage members to follow the Countryside Code and safeguard our waterways.
